Beginnings and Hampden
Beginnings by the Dee
Banks o’ Dee is founded in Aberdeen in 1902.
The club gives 1902 as its founding year; an exact date is not documented. It develops within northern Scotland's junior football scene.
Scottish Junior Cup at Hampden
Banks o’ Dee beat Kilsyth Rangers 1–0 in the final.
Walker scores the winner before 30,800 spectators at Hampden Park in Glasgow. The national junior cup triumph remains a landmark in the club's history.

Ten goals in the Scottish Cup
Banks o’ Dee beat Fort William 10–0 in the Scottish Cup first round.
The emphatic win over a Highland League side is an early national cup moment for a club still playing junior league football.
Artificial pitch at Spain Park
An artificial pitch replaces natural grass at Spain Park in 2011.
The new surface makes the ground more usable throughout the year. LED floodlights and solar power follow later, although the precise dates of those further upgrades are not fully documented.
Scottish FA membership
Banks o’ Dee become a full member of the Scottish Football Association in 2014.
The club remains in the junior league while gaining regular Scottish Cup entry. Full association membership precedes its Highland League debut by eight years.
First Aberdeenshire Cup
Banks o’ Dee beat Formartine United 4–1 in the final.
At Harlaw Park in Inverurie, the club claim the Aberdeenshire Cup for the first time, while still playing junior league football.
Cup upset against East Fife
Banks o’ Dee come from behind to beat East Fife 2–1 in the Scottish Cup.
An own goal cancels out the League One side's early lead before Mark Gilmour scores late on. The Spain Park win takes the junior club into the fourth round.
The Highland League era
Aberdeenshire Shield on penalties
After a 3–3 draw against Huntly, Banks o’ Dee win the final 5–3 on penalties.
At Harlaw Park in Inverurie, Banks o’ Dee overturn a two-goal deficit before the closely fought regional final is decided by a shoot-out.
Promotion to the Highland League
After winning the North Superleague, Banks o’ Dee enter the Highland League for the first time.
Fort William withdraw from the scheduled promotion and relegation tie. Banks o’ Dee therefore go up without a played decider.
First Highland League match
Banks o’ Dee open their first Highland League season with a 1–1 draw against Nairn County.
The Spain Park fixture is the club's first league match at the new level, marking its move from junior league football into the Highland League.
24-point deduction
A registration error costs the club 24 points in its first Highland League season.
The club acknowledges the error and reviews its administrative procedures. The sanction seriously damages its first Highland League title challenge.
Highland League Cup at the first attempt
Banks o’ Dee beat Inverurie Loco Works 1–0 in the final.
Magnus Watson scores at Bellslea Park in Fraserburgh. Despite the league points deduction, the club lifts the League Cup in its first Highland League season.
Bronze licence and new stand
Banks o’ Dee receive the Scottish FA bronze club licence in 2024 and complete a new stand at Spain Park.
The licence is recorded in May 2024. That summer, a 96-seat stand completes a programme of ground improvements begun with the artificial pitch in 2011.
Second Aberdeenshire Cup
Banks o’ Dee beat Huntly 1–0 in the final.
Michael Philipson scores at Harlaw Park in Inverurie. Three years after their first triumph, the club lift the regional cup again.
