  1. 1946–1948
    SG Leipzig-ProbstheidaOfficial name: Sportgemeinschaft Leipzig-Probstheida

    After the traditional clubs had been banned, a municipal sports association was formed in Probstheida in 1946 and continued VfB Leipzig’s football tradition. It was not a legal continuation of the dissolved pre-war club.

    In 1949, SG Probstheida was reorganised under the new East German sports system as a company sports association named after Leipzig mayor Erich Zeigner.

    BSG Einheit Leipzig OstOfficial name: Betriebssportgemeinschaft Einheit Leipzig Ost

    BSG Einheit Leipzig Ost, established in 1950, took over BSG Erich Zeigner’s football section and DDR-Liga place. It won promotion to the DDR-Oberliga in 1953.

    In 1963, selected players and structures from SC Rotation and SC Lokomotive were concentrated in the new football section of SC Leipzig. That section became 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in 1966.

    1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig was founded from SC Leipzig’s football section on January 20, 1966. Its highlights include four FDGB-Pokal victories and the 1987 European Cup Winners’ Cup final. The club adopted the name VfB Leipzig in July 1991.

    1. FC Lokomotive LeipzigOfficial name: 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig e.V.

    Supporters of the financially stricken VfB founded a new 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig on December 10, 2003, initially above all to safeguard youth football. The new club was not a legal continuation of VfB Leipzig.

    The 2021 merger of VfB Leipzig e.V. into the 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig founded in 2003 legally reunited the historical strands. Following the statutes adopted on October 7, 2021, the official name is 1. Fußballclub Lokomotive Leipzig, Verein für Bewegungsspiele e.V.
