The Coupe de France was created in 1917 by the Comité Français Interfédéral on the initiative of Henri Delaunay. It was initially named the Coupe Charles-Simon, was taken over by the newly founded FFF in 1919 and has generally been known as the Coupe de France since then. The Coupe Charles-Simon name was used again for the wartime editions. The 1991/92 season ended without a final or title following the Furiani disaster.
