The Taça Império was a separate one-off competition staged for the inauguration of the Estádio Nacional on June 10, 1944. League champions Sporting CP defeated cup winners Benfica 3–2. It is a conceptual forerunner of the Portuguese Super Cup but is not part of its title count.
