The Johan Cruijff Shield is the Dutch men’s Super Cup. Before the new season, the national champions face the KNVB Cup winners; under the current rule, the Eredivisie runners-up participate if one club wins the double. SVV won an initial Super Cup match 2–0 against Quick Nijmegen in 1949. The experiment was not revived until 1991 as the PTT Telecom Cup, was named the Super Cup in 1994 and 1995, and has carried the name Johan Cruijff Shield since 1996. The 2020 match was not played because the preceding league and cup competitions ended without winners as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
