About the stadium
The historic Parkstadion opened on August 4, 1973 with Schalke’s 2-1 defeat by Feyenoord. It was the first team’s home until 2001. Following redevelopment in 1998, capacity was 62,004. Partial demolition followed in 2004 and 2008; the small ground opened on the site in 2020 is a later structure.
