About the stadium
The opening week ran from August 25 to September 2, 1928. Schalke beat Tennis Borussia Berlin 3-2 in the ceremonial concluding match. The Glückauf-Kampfbahn was the first team’s home until its move to the Parkstadion in 1973. The ground passed into municipal ownership in 1965.
